Depression and Anxiety

Overview

Depression is the leading cause of disability around the world. The numbers for both depression and anxiety are increasing throughout the world. Studies are being researched on how yoga can have an impact on both depression and anxiety.

Benefits

When it comes to the benefits of yoga, there are a lot. Concerning depression and anxiety, it is shown that yoga helps reduce them both. The mind-and-body aspect of yoga allows the body to stretch and relax. It is physical activity. The additional mindfulness part of yoga shows reduction in depression and anxiety as well. Mental health relies heavily on the mindset of people.

According to one study, when yoga is paired up with the participants' usual treatments (medication, therapy, etc.), there was evidence of a significant reduction in depression. After some statistical trend trimmings, the same happened for anxiety. Yoga was concluded to be an additional therapy that could help treat depression and anxiety (Manincor et al, 2016).

Recommendation

After researching some studies on yoga's benefits, it is recommended that yoga is paired up with other forms of treatment like medication, exercise, diet, etc. in order to make an increase in reducing depression and anxiety.

Conclusions

According to another study, yoga needs to be further researched in order to confirm its benefits in reducing depression and anxiety. However, there is not enough evidence to say that yoga does not give benefits. There is a lot of evidence that yoga should be considered as another form of treatment for reducing depression (Cramer et al, 2013).
